Happy New Year to you All
from the Team at Citizens Advice Solihull Borough.
This year we resume our information and advice service on Monday 6th January 2020.
On Monday 6th January we are starting the first of our new projects. We will be delivering social prescribing on behalf of 18 GP practices in south Solihull. The project is aimed at helping you find a way forward by supporting you to improve your health and well-being. If you feel you would benefit from speaking to someone about how you access events happening in your community or are struggling with things like paying your bills, our Link Workers are there to support you. Ask at your surgery for a referral.
We will be holding Energy Advice Events in January, February and March 2020 in the hope of saving you money on your fuel bills. In the last 3 months of 2019, we have saved people on average £250 per year. If you would like to know more about energy advice or the events available please call 0300 330 9019.
The DWP gave Citizens Advice funding to help people claim Universal Credit. We were fortunate to receive some of that funding and have been assisting people since April 2019 with their claims of UC; until their first payment. We have a dedicated room with several computers available for people to make their claim and we have trained volunteers to be UC champions, who are available to help. If you are unable to attend our office in Chelmsley Wood, we do have volunteers in the job centres in Solihull (Wednesday) and Chelmsley Wood (Thursday).
It is wonderful to let you know that ASDA Shirley are continuing their support for our service. Every Thursday they give us space to hold an information point for local people who need to come and talk to an Adviser. This service is very popular and we hope it will continue well in to the future.
Talking about Thursdays, this year we will be promoting #ThirdPartyThursdays. We have a number of agencies that we work with to ensure that you get the advice and information you need, when you need it. Every Thursday different organisations, agencies, people, will be coming in to the offices in Chelmsley Wood and you will be able to access those services directly. We will be letting you know more about this in a few days.
Our charity shop on the site in Chelmsley Wood is accepting donations, so if you are tidying up to put your pressies away please think about our shop. The Shop is run by volunteers and all monies made go back in to providing information and advice to you all. We have donated some items received to families and individuals to help them through difficult times.
Perhaps instead of using our service you would like to join our team? We have lots of volunteer roles available and all training is given. Just drop Carol an email : email@example.com and Carol will send you the details.
If you need our help, call 0300 330 9019 or drop in to see us.
